Queuing for a meal

Origins:

Founded by Doris Syfret in 1935, The Service Dining Rooms have been serving nourishing meals every weekday to Cape Town’s people for more than 3 generations. Whatever your circumstances we make sure you won’t go hungry.

Our Mandate:

Doris Syfret set up SDR in order to ensure that the most vulnerable people and communities in and around Cape Town are fed and cared for on a daily basis. This objective is served in various ways by the SDR including the famous daily 5 cent meal served at Canterbury Street in the city, but also by sourcing, cooking and providing meals, food parcels and food supplies to various at risk communities such as old age pensioners and school-going children by partnering with several other wonderful organisations doing work in these communities.
