We provide approximately 800 meals daily, Monday to Friday, from our premises at 82 Canterbury Street.
Most of the cooked food is collected by off-site clients who deliver to creches, clinics and church feeding schemes on the Cape Flats.
The building in Canterbury Street houses our kitchen and dining rooms. We can seat up to 150 people at a time. The main meal is served at 11h30. A client will pay R1.00 for a meal, or will exchange a token obtained on use of the nearest ablutions facility or medical clinic.
We have a staff of eight and a handful of core volunteers who help with the preparation, serving and cleaning. On Sundays our facilities are staffed by volunteers from the Central Methodist Mission and we enjoy regular visits from students at the nearby Cape Peninsula University of Technology. We also get occasional volunteers who can fill in for a day or two here and there. All volunteers are welcome and we will gladly find work for you to do!
All the food we serve is provided through donations.
- We receive fish from I&J twice every week.
- Tongaat-Hulett provides sugar once a month.
- We also receive occasional donations from individuals and other companies.
- We supplement these in-kind donations with purchases of staples such as soya and samp, bought using funds donated to us by generous benefactors.
